1941. Illustrated Advertising envelope (Chicks Chewing Gum) written from the United States addressed to Bangkok bearing United States Yvert 375, 5c turquoise (defective) tied by Newark roller ‘Oct 29 1941', sent surface mail and endorsed ‘Steamer mail' routed via Singapore with censor tape tied by ‘Passed by/Censor 37/A' with instructional hand-stamp ‘Returned/Service Suspended' on face in violet and routed back via San Pedro/Calif on reverse ‘Apr 23rd 1942' with framed San Pedro ‘7' censor hand-stamp on face. This letter was paid to go by surface mail and was marked ‘Steamer Mail' which explains why it was in transit at or beyond Singapore when Japanese Forces occupied Thailand after 8th December 1941. After the USA declared war on Japan 8th December 1941. Rare item of interrupted mail.
This Lot is under the margin tax system (§25a UStG). The VAT (MWSt) is not displayed seperate on the bill.

In april 2005 the idea to build a place where collectors, customers and investors from all over the world could meet, was realized.
Since that time both, the Mail Order House and Auction House Gärtner, have been united on 2.700 m2 in the easy accessible building owned by Christoph Gärtner.
Generous viewing and storage rooms, a private auction hall, enough parking space and an underground car park are available.
