1945-7 MANCHURIA LOCAL OVERPRINTS MINT & USED COLLECTION of these fascinating overprints, produced to fill a vacuum caused by the defeat of the Japanese forces at the end of WWII, many towns produced an overprint to be applied to the stamps available at the post offices, with 272 locations being recorded. We see a stock book, laid out in location order as listed by the revised 2000 edition of "The Local Overprinted Stamps of Manchuria 1945-7," by Allen D. Kerr, includes mostly mint or unused with larger ranges from more common locations such as no.148 Mukden, no.156 Pai Chuan & no.166 Pin Hsien, plus a few used stamps and the odd block or multiple. Mostly all different and generally fine, not only could this lot represent a challenge for a dedicated philatelist to expand, it would also be ideal for a newcomer to this collecting area as the identification work has been done, and could simply be improved by better presentation (1040+ stamps).
