1941. Air Mail envelope (faults/tear) addressed to Java, Netherlands Indies bearing Great Britain SG 477, 5s red tied by Bromley duplex routed via San Francisco and Hawaii when the service was suspended and returned to London, censored by the British 'Opened by Examiner/995' with framed instructional 'No Service/Return To Sender' on face in violet. Superb double weight letter suspension of mail service. Roughly opend, back side with faults - flap missing.
The service was suspended [formally on the 18th December 1941] consequent on Japanese advances in the Far East. This letter was beyond San Francisco when the service was suspended and all mail which had got that far was returned to London by the US postal authorities and marked in London with the British 'No Service' mark.
This Lot is under the margin tax system (§25a UStG). The VAT (MWSt) is not displayed seperate on the bill.

In april 2005 the idea to build a place where collectors, customers and investors from all over the world could meet, was realized.
Since that time both, the Mail Order House and Auction House Gärtner, have been united on 2.700 m2 in the easy accessible building owned by Christoph Gärtner.
Generous viewing and storage rooms, a private auction hall, enough parking space and an underground car park are available.
