1941. Registered Air Mail envelope addressed to Sweden bearing SG 22, 1a brown, SG 24, 2a carmine, SG 29, 8a myrtle green and SG 30, 1r purple and blue tied by Rangolm double ring '1st April 41' with matching registered label, endorsed 'via Basra' with framed 'Passed Censor/6' in violet on face with framed 'No Service/ Return To Sender' with 'Opened by Examiner/5174' censor label applied in London and returned to Burma with boxed 'D.L.O./Rangoon' on reverse '6th Dec 41'. Due to the German invasion of Norway in April to June 1940 there was no postal service to Sweden at this time. Lovely item of service suspended mail. The Gerrman invasion of Norway in April to June 1940 caused the route Perth to Stavanger to Oslo to Stockholm to become unavailable. A special route Leuchars to Stockholm was set up but did not run to any schedule. In 1941 only 54 return flights were made. As far as postal administrations outside the UK were concerned there was no service via the UK to Sweden at this time and that is reflected in the marks. The item was posted in April 1941 in Burma as an air mail letter endorsed to go via Basra in Iraq [and then on to the Horseshoe route via Egypt and South Africa]. The item was back in the DLO Rangoon on the 5th December 1941 having been dealt with in the RLO London on the 12th September 1941.
This Lot is under the margin tax system (§25a UStG). The VAT (MWSt) is not displayed seperate on the bill.
