Lundy - The development of postal services on the pirate island in the Bristol Channel.
1929/1961.
Classic country collection, beginning after the closure of the Royal Mail post office, which operated on the island from 1887 to 1927. The collection shows all stamps between 1929 and 1961 of the local private mail, which connected Lundy with the mainland (and with the Royal Mail). Many of the stamps are shown not only mint, but also on (commercial) used covers. From the beginning years there is an extremely rare foreign letter, which is franked exclusively with Lundy stamps, but most covers show mixed frankings between Lundy and Royal Mail resp. forreign stamps on incoming mail. Several covers of the years 1935 to 1939 show in addition airmail stamps of the Lundy & Atlantic Coasts Air Service, a private airmail company, which carried out regular flights to Lundy. These letters thus carry stamps of three postal administrations. This amount of stamps must have "confused" the Royal Mail - in any case, they began to stick the private stamps on the back of outgoing mail, only in the case of incoming mail the stamps - used like postage due stamps - are affixed on the front and the corresponding fees collected from the recipient. This, of course, produces many colourful documents that are also interesting from a postal history point of view.
A beautiful exhibition collection with a lot of potential - especially since the jurors find many elements of a classic collection as well as a posthistorical collection. ÷ Lundy - Die Entwicklung des Postwesens auf der Pirateninsel im Bristolkanal.

Klassische Ländersammlung, beginnend nach der Auflösung des Postamtes der Royal Mail, welche von 1887 bis 1927 ein Postamt auf der Insel betrieb.. Die Sammlung zeigt alle Marken zwischen 1929 und 1961 der privaten Zubringerpost, welche Lundy mit dem Festland und damit mit der Royal Mail. Viele der Marken werden nicht nur postfrisch, sondern auch auf (bedarfs-)gelaufenen Briefen gezeigt. Gibt es aus der Anfangszeit auch einen extrem seltenen Auslandsbrief, der ausschließlich mit Lundy-Marken frankiert ist, überwiegen die Belege, in denen Lundy-Marken sich in Mischfrankatur mit englischen Marken bzw. bei eingehender Post auch mit ausländischen Marken befinden. Auf zahlreichen Belegen der Jahre 1935 bis 1939 finden sich zusätzlich die Flugpostmarken der Lundy & Atlantic Coasts Air Service, einem ebenfalls privaten Luftpostunternehmen, welche u.a. einen regelmässigen Flugbetrieb nach Lundy durchführte. Diese Belege tragen also Marken von drei Postverwaltungen. Diese Menge an Marken muss die Royal Mail "verwirrt" haben - jedenfalls beginnt man die privaten Marken bei ausgehender Post auf der Rückseite zu verkleben, nur bei eingehender Post werden die Marken - letztlich wie Portomarken verwendet - vorderseitig verklebt sowie die entsprechenden Gebühren beim Empfänger eingezogen. Hierbei entstehen natürlich viele farbenfrohe Belege, die durchaus auch postgeschichtlich interessant sind.
Eine schöne Ausstellungssamlung mit viel Potential - insbesondere da die Juroren viele Elemente einer klassischen Ländersammlung als auch einer postgeschichtlichen Sammlung finden.

Since that time both, the Mail Order House and Auction House Gärtner, have been united on 2.700 m2 in the easy accessible building owned by Christoph Gärtner.
