1846 FIRST SIKH WAR: 11 April letter with manuscript endorsement 'Overland Mail via Marseilles' from Kurnaul via Bombay and London (4 June) to Edinburgh (5 June) = 55 days, with trisected "KURNAUL/18 (11 April 46)/Paid. (12as)" h/s (Giles 3) + m/s, transit and arrival cds all in red, and '8d' (bearing postage) on front. The letter was written by a soldier to his father in Scotland and headed 'Camp Mangna, 3 Marchis from Kurnaul, April 7 1846 Noon ...', and the letter gives blow by blow account of the battle. (A full transcript of the letter enclosed.) (Regiments that participated in the campaign were "The European Foot Artillery" and "HM's 3rd Dragoons".)
