1838 WAGHORN & Co.: "Care of/Mr. Waghorn/Suez" oval handstamp with '57' noting and signed by 'G.D.' for 'S.S. & Co.' (Samuel Smith & Co., Waghorn's Agents at Calcutta in payment of Rs 1/- registration charges for carriage of mail) on entire letter (16 Nov.) from Calcutta 'Per overland despatch' (endorsed in m/s) via Bombay, Alexandria (27 Dec.), Paris (18 Jan.'39) and London (20 Jan.) to Edinburgh (22 Jan.) = 68 days, with respective despatch, transit and arrival datestamps, and boxed "INDES ORIEN./PAR/ALEXANDRIA", doubly circled "PURIFIE AU LAZARET/MALTE" (letter subjected to fumigation at Malta and crossed by chisel slits) and boxed "BRITISH/FOREIGN" with '5(s)/7(d)' in m/s arrival postage (3-9 Foreign, 1-10 British) and '1/2' Scottish mail turnpike charges.

In april 2005 the idea to build a place where collectors, customers and investors from all over the world could meet, was realized.
Since that time both, the Mail Order House and Auction House Gärtner, have been united on 2.700 m2 in the easy accessible building owned by Christoph Gärtner.
Generous viewing and storage rooms, a private auction hall, enough parking space and an underground car park are available.
