1870 (20 Oct) BALLON MONTÉ TO EGYPT: Entire letter from Paris to Port Said, sending instructions from Head Office to the Chief of the 1st Section of the Suez Canal Scheme, franked Napoleon 1868 40C. orange for overseas rate to Egypt, tied by Paris numeral "1" in star of dots, endorsed 'Par Ballon monté' and Voie de Marseille' in m/s, with Paris '20 Oct 70' despatch cds on front, Marseille '2 Nov 70' transit datestamp as wel as blue Port-Said '15 Nov 70' arrival cds on the reverse. This letter was flown by Ballon "Garibaldi" at 22nd October, reaching Marseille at 2nd Nov. for French Packet Ship "Ebre" of Ligne U, to Alexandria. A VERY RARE DESTINATION FOR BALLON MONTÉ MAIL, AND A LETTER FULL OF SUEZ CANAL HISTORY (more details on a note attached). J. Robineau certificate (2005). Ex Jeidel Collection.
