Bordé par la ligne de démarcation, traversé d’axes de circulation, il était inévitable que le Lot-et-Garonne, protégé par sa ruralité, devienne un territoire de refuge privilégié des Juifs, dès avant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale. S’ils n’y furent épargnés ni par les rafles, ni par les persécutions antisémites, ni par les déportations hélas trop nombreuses, l’immense majorité d’entre eux put, dans ce département, échapper à la mort.
