Sidney Fay BLAKE

One of his neighbours is other one than the botanist Robert Greenleaf Leavitt ( 1865-1942 ), working in Harvard, which introduces him being a child to the botany. Blake studies in Harvard beside Benjamin Lincoln Robinson ( 1864-1935 ) and Merritt Lyndon Fernald ( 1873-1950 ). He obtains his Bachelor of Arts there in 1912, his Master of Arts in 1913 and his Ph. D. in botany in 1917, with a thesis concerning the genre Viguiera. He begins then to work for the office of the industrial plants of the Department of the Agriculture of the United States and where he crosses all his career. He works supervised by Frederick Vernon Coville ( 1867-1937 ) on the standardization of the names of vegetables. He becomes the president in 1943 of American Society of plantation Taxonomists. He is besides interested in the paleontology and in Sherlock Holmes.
