Old Baseball Card Photographs - Turkey Red Cabinets (T3) Series - Super High Resolution DVD

Presented in this DVD are 89 fabulous Baseball Cards from the 1911 T3 Turkey Red Cabinets Series.

The original 1911 Turkey Red tobacco card set consisting of oversized "Cabinet" cards measuring 5 ¾" x 8", featured some of the most stunning artwork ever captured on a baseball card. These cards were considered by many hobbyists to be the most gorgeous baseball card set ever produced as can be seen from this DVD.

In the period before and just after the American Civil War, baseball became an increasingly popular sport in the United States. The first baseball cards were made of a cloth like material. Many of these cards were "home made". Unlike modern cards, which were used for commercial purposes, these cards were meant to be nothing more than mementoes and are now obscure and rare.

In those early days before modern printing techniques were used, a type of baseball-theme picture card was made. This was called a 'cabinet card' on which the photograph of a famous baseball player, team or theme was pasted. A large version of this card display in a cabinet - much like our posters today. From 1887 onwards billions of baseball cards have been produced, the value of which range from ten cents to over one hundred thousand dollars. In the late 1860's a sporting good company named Peck and Snyder printed baseball cards and used them as advertisements for their products. On one side was pictured a famous baseball team and on the back was the advertisement. These cards were printed in large numbers and were used for commercial purposes and are considered the first modern baseball cards. These advertising cards are called 'trade cards.' A trade card is an advertising card that is given away, and was much like present day flyers that are handed out for free.

What many collectors call "the golden years of baseball", took place from 1902 until 1935. One reason that collectors call this period that is because cards took on many different changes during this era. Cards were starting to be packaged with chewing tobacco, crackerjacks, and chewing gum. Many companies produced cards during this era. Some of the major manufactures were: Piedmont, Ramly, Hassan, and Turkey Red.

The large and beautiful 1911 T3 Turkey Red Cabinet Cards, as seen on this DVD, are a collector’s dream. The scans of the beautiful lithograph prints in color can brighten up the home of any baseball fan who cares about the glorious history of this game.

What is amazing is the clarity of these litho prints which reflect the intense concentration and total absorption with the game on the faces of these players. These brilliantly painted litho prints can match the photographs taken by any good sports photographer of our times.

Take your pick from the hall of fame of baseball - be it a pitcher, a striker, a catcher, a fielder - adorn your home with these cabinet cards and leave behind an enviable legacy for your children.

EDITORIAL REVIEW:

As I browsed through this DVD I was amazed by the line up of baseball heroes that we have here. Clear-eyed and totally focused on the game these players carried an undeniable charm, that is captured so well in these cards.. These are our national sports treasures in litho prints, with us forever now, thanks to those who have done a great service to all baseball lovers by bringing them amongst us again.

Fantastic pictures of "Cy" Young of Cleveland, Collins of Philadelphia, D. Jones of Detroit, we have a line up of national players in action. I wonder how they got these stars to pose for these paintings, being busy as they were during the season. The genius of the artists shines through as they have so faithfully reproduced the spirit and love of the game in each and every one of the cards. One can almost hear the cheering fans in the stadium in the background.

Back in the early 20th century it must been thrilling to buy a pack of chewing tobacco, crackerjacks, and chewing gum and cigarette with a baseball hero imprinted on the back cover for keeps. This is what makes this DVD is a must have for all baseball and sports lovers.

CUSTOMER'S REVIEWS:

"The sheer joy of a young boy as he collects these cards, shows them off to his friends, trades them for more and then preserves them for eternity. This exactly how I felt when I viewed this DVD - young and enthusiastic and fired by the desire to possess and frame as many cards as I could on right away."
