BANK TRANSFER IS THE WAY TO GO !!!

I don't know about any other Banks, but mine is Abbey and I gave the buyer from Belgium my details and it was in my account WITHOUT ANY CHARGES 2 days later and I have just had a letter from Abbey acknowledging it...all free

I have done many, many Bank Transfers between me and my UK customers and this was the first European Transfer, it was so easy and really convienient and FREE

I am now trying to find out if it's the same for the rest of the world transfers (NZ, Australia, Canada, USA etc) but I am sure there is a charge on them

Please be careful not to give French and Belgian sellers the idea that bank transfer is a viable means of paying them from the UK, or indeed from the USA or many other countries. In the overwhelming majority of cases it is NOT.

Most banks make exorbitant charges for it, in the case of most delcampe sales many times the value of the object being bought. When I drew the attention of a manager at the NatWest Bank to the service offered by Moneybookers and asked him if he himself would use his own bank's service in preference, he readily admitted that of course he wouldn't . His customers may be stupid, but he isn't.

Europe Transfers to the Uk are quite easy and free but you are correct in saying SENDING money from the UK to Europe really is a rip and I am sure i got quoted £10 ages ago from the Halifax bank to do so

Thank you very much for pointing out that the word in the title is SELLERS .

I did notice this, actually, but I wanted to emphasise that the same is not true in the other direction, and I am very glad that you agree with me on this. Charges used to be around £25, and in general have halved recently with improved technology, at about the same time as many internal transfers became much quicker. It's my belief that the banks could now afford to make this service free, but have decided to hang on to a healthy profit for themselves.

However, we must remember that this is how UK banking works. It tends to be free for routine things, with hefty charges for anything extraordinary. In other countries, the routine things are not usually free.

I hope you won't deem this reply to be "negative".

Hello Ryszard,
Yes, he reckons it was only a few pence and he reckons that in Belgium they use Bank Transfer all the time as it's cheaper than paying the postage on sending a cheque

What they charge from Belgium to Israel I wouldn't know ?

But if I was to send, say 5 Euros (about £4) from my bank, they charge me £10.00 !!
Supposed to be a United Europe !

Hi,

In Belgium, no charge by receiving payment, coming from anywhere !

The only one other country charging systematically transactions is France (in Euro zone). Charge free except from France ! No problem with I, D, NL, CH, E, P, LU, etc. !
