I have seen this description in the Japanese phonecard section "Balken free card".
I understand the "free card" part, but do not know what "Balken" implies. Is this the catalog? the issuer? the card system? the manufacturer? or something else?

Hi,

"Balken" describes cards with the 2 to 5 black bars on the front (bottom left) of the cards. Issues from the first years since 1986.

"Free (design) cards" are private issued cards.
