2nd Set of 2019 Chinese Ancient Art Treasures series Stamps. Formosa(Taiwan), Rep of China.
First Day of Issued:Dec.10,2019.
The designs of the four stamps are briefly described as follows:
1. Jade Hornless Dragons Cup, Qing dynasty (NT$7): Made from white jade, it features two hornless dragons drinking water, which serve as cup handles. Furthermore, the dragons have been subjected to a yellow dye to give them a more ancient look. The jade is stored in a wooden box carved with a dragon and cloud pattern, which includes a passage about this cup carved by the Qing dynasty’s Gaozong — emperor Qianlong.
2. Jade Bottle with Phoenixes, Qing dynasty (NT$12): Simple and elegant and made of pale green jade, the work has elements that suggest auspiciousness in several ways: The jade bottle represents peace, the phoenixes represent auspiciousness, and the peaches and bats combine to convey the idea of good fortune and long life. These elements are characteristic of Qing dynasty jades.
3. Jade Goblet, Han dynasty (NT$15): This jade was originally a plain looking tube 4,000 years ago, and during the Han dynasty 2,000 years ago, it was altered to achieve its current appearance, with a bottom added so that it could serve as a container. Furthermore, various portions of the jade’s exterior were used to carve phoenixes standing still and other mythical beasts half-shrouded by clouds. This work is truly a jade masterpiece.
4. Jade Square Four-legged Cauldron, Qing dynasty (NT$35): Of finely carved pale green jade, the shape and ornamentation of this work reference those of bronze cauldrons from the early Western Zhou dynasty. Consequently, the jade features right and left bestial patterns on the belly of the cauldron. There are also beast heads visible on each of the four legs and a beast jade figure on top of the wooden lid that is characteristic of the Qing and Ming dynasties.
