Les Grands Magasins du Louvre ont été crées en 1855 par Alfred Chauchard et Auguste Hériot sous le second empire. Ce magasin a été ouvert au rez-de-chaussée du Grand Hôtel du Louvre construit en 1852 notamment par l'architecte Alfred Armand (1805-188) sur la place du Palais Royal. Financé par les frères Pereire, c’est le tout premier palace parisien construit à la demande du baron Haussmann. En 1875 le magasin est agrandi en rachetant l'ensemble de l'immeuble, occupé par l'Hôtel du Louvre qui est transféré de l'autre côté de la place du Palais-Royal. Ce grand magasin comportait cinquante-deux départements et comptoirs à la disposition des clients. Il a fermé ses portes en 1974, aujourd'hui le Louvre des antiquaires ainsi que des bureaux...
