The city of Asunción (Paraguay) will host the XII edition of the 2022 South American Games.
The first edition of the South American Games was held in La Paz, the administrative capital of Bolivia, in November 1978. Since then, the Games have been held every four years in various cities in South America. The last edition was held in Cochabamba (Bolivia) in 2018.
The South American Games (in Portuguese: Jogos Sul-Americanos, in Dutch: Zuid-Amerikaanse Spelen, in English: South American Games), are a multidisciplinary sporting event in which athletes from all South American countries except French Guiana participate. Some Caribbean countries also participate. They are organized by the South American Sports Organization (ODESUR).
One of the characteristics of the South American Games is to compete with Olympic sports such as athletics and swimming and also include others that are not on the Olympic Games program, such as bowling and karate.

La ciudad de Asunción (Paraguay) acogerá la XII edición de los Juegos Suramericanos de 2022.
La primera edición de los Juegos Sudamericanos se llevó a cabo en La Paz, capital administrativa de Bolivia, en noviembre de 1978. Desde aquella oportunidad, los Juegos han sido realizados cada cuatro años en diversas ciudades de América del Sur. La última edición se celebró en Cochabamba (Bolivia) en 2018.
Los Juegos Suramericanos (en portugués: Jogos Sul-Americanos, en neerlandés: Zuid-Amerikaanse Spelen, en inglés: South American Games), son un evento deportivo multidisciplinario en el que participan atletas de todos los países de América del Sur menos Guayana Francesa. También participan algunos países del Caribe. Son organizados por la Organización Deportiva Suramericana (ODESUR).
Una de las características de los Juegos Sudamericanos es la de competir con deportes olímpicos como el atletismo y la natación y también incluir otros que no están en el programa de los Juegos Olímpicos, como los bolos y el karate.
