Complete set of 2012 Working Dogs in Government Services Stamps & s/s. HONG KONG.
A number of government departments in Hong Kong have set up working dog units to assist their staff in performing various duties such as quarantine inspection, narcotics interdiction, investigation and patrol, contributing notably to the maintenance of law and order and the safeguarding of public safety.
$1.40 - The stamp captures a Quarantine Detector Dog, a Beagle, from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department performing a quarantine inspection with its handler. The Quarantine Detector Dog Unit carries out quarantine operations at various immigration checkpoints to combat animal smuggling, thereby preventing animal diseases found in other places from spreading to Hong Kong.
$1.80 - The stamp captures a Correctional Services Dog, a German Shepherd, from the Correctional Services Department on patrol with its handler. The Correctional Services Dog Unit provides routine or emergency security guard and patrol services at correctional institutions.
$2.40 - The stamp captures a Customs Detector Dog, an English Springer Spaniel, from the Customs and Excise Department performing a drug search with its handler. The Customs Detector Dog Division is deployed to different entry and exit points to help deter the flow of drugs into Hong Kong and support front-line customs clearance.
$2.50 - The stamp captures a Fire Investigation Dog, a Labrador Retriever, from the Fire Services Department conducting a fire investigation with its handler. The Fire Investigation Dog Team assists fire officers in searching for evidence to help determine the cause of a fire.
$3.00 - The stamp captures a Quarantine Detector Dog, a Labrador Retriever, from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department performing a quarantine inspection with its handler. The Quarantine Detector Dog Unit screens travellers´ luggage at boundary control points in the fight against illegal importation of meat products.
$5.00 - The stamp captures a Police Dog, a Malinois, from the Hong Kong Police Force on patrol with its handler. The Hong Kong Police Dog Unit assists police officers with patrol duties as well as tracking and detecting drugs and explosives at crime scenes.
