1841 (15 Jan) wrapper to London bearing 1d black 'KC' plate 8 with 4 good to large margins cancelled by very fine Maltese Cross in a distinctive red-brown ink with 'MANCHESTER / JA 15 1841' cds in matching ink on reverse. The 'Encyclopedia of the Maltese Cross' lists 6 examples used at Manchester between Dec. 1840 and Feb. 1841. Attractive, no side flaps.Â
