1840 MAY DATE. 1840 (28 May) EL from London to Mayfield, Sussex bearing 1d black 'LE' plate 3 with 4 good to large neat margins tied by superb red MC cancellation, on reverse a choice Lombard St 'LS / 28 MY 28 / 1840' date stamp. The stamp slightly affected by horizontal fold but an extremely pretty cover. Spec AS20tj, from Â£2000.
