Questa ristampa anastatica è la riproduzione della pubblicazione originale di quarant'anni fa, apparsa fuori commercio ed in tiratura limitatissima. Il libro era stato progettato per avere una seconda parte formata da una serie di tavole fotografiche di mobili; ma si rinunciò ad utilizzare le oltre cinquecento fotografie già raccolte per concentrare l'importanza sul testo storico e critico dei due autori e sulla rara cospicua dotazione di schizzi originali di Enrico Pellegrini, valentissimo ed acuto disegnatore dal temperamento squisitamente poetico. «La facoltà colla quale Pellegrini disegnava — scrisse di lui Enzo Pradelli —, in forme che possono essere definite artistiche anche nella loro nuda semplicità, era uno dei mezzi che egli impiegava per conferire maggiore efficacia alla sua lezione, per essere compreso, per convincere”
La critica estetica, la descrizione del bello architettonico, si fondono mirabilmente con una visione poetica della natura e dell'opera d'arte. e le fresche illustrazioni a penna di Pellegrini, realizzate come su di una lavagna, stanno a dimostrare con quanto amore egli volesse partecipare il proprio sentimento ai lettori, ai suoi allievi, a tutti». Il volume era preceduto da una breve prefazione nella quale tra l'altro gli autori dicevano: «Abbiamo creduto opportuno fare precedere il testo storico e critico da una serie di figure che mostrino chiaramente la genealogia del mobile barocco piemontese e ne fissino gli elementi tipici, allo scopo di chiarire nella mente dei lettori i caratteri che il mobile piemontese ha assunto tra il Seicento ed il Settecento”.

This anastatic reprint is the reproduction of the original publication of forty years ago, appeared out of commerce and in a very limited edition. The book was designed to have a second part formed by a series of photographic tables of furniture; but it was renounced to use the more than five hundred photographs already collected to focus the importance on the historical and critical text of the two authors and on the rare conspicuous endowment of original sketches by Enrico Pellegrini, a very talented and acute designer with an exquisitely poetic temperament. "The faculty with which Pellegrini designed," Enzo Pradelli wrote of him, "in forms that can be defined as artistic even in their naked simplicity, was one of the means he employed to give greater effectiveness to his lesson, to be understood, to convince" . The aesthetic criticism, the description of architectural beauty, blend admirably with a poetic vision of nature and the work of art. and Pellegrini's fresh pen illustrations, made as if on a blackboard, show how much love he wanted to share his feeling with the readers, his students, everyone". The volume was preceded by a brief preface in which, among other things, the authors said: "We thought it appropriate to precede the historical and critical text by a series of figures that clearly show the genealogy of Piedmontese Baroque furniture and fix the typical elements, in order to clarify in the minds of readers the characters that Piedmontese furniture assumed between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries".
